MRT Replaces Hundreds of Trees Affected by Phase 2A CP202 Construction

The preparation work for the construction of the 202 MRT Jakarta contract package phase 2A, which began on July 27, 2022, is still continuing. It is recorded that there were 550 trees affected during the construction process of the project.

Of the 550 trees, 517 will be replaced with 5,170 trees and 33 trees will be relocated for the sustainable preservation of the environment.

PT MRT Jakarta Secretary Corporate Division Head, Rendi Alhial said his party routinely coordinates with the Jakarta administration and follows all licensing procedures set out in handling trees affected by the MRT CP202 project.

"MRT Jakarta follows the procedures set out as recommended by Jakarta Parks and City Forests Agency," he expressed, Tuesday (9/13).

He explained that the 202 contract package is one of the segments of the MRT construction phase 2A with the scope of work covering the construction of Harmoni Stations, Sawah Besar, and Mangga Besar stations, as well as underground tunnels from Harmoni to Mangga Besar for 1.8 kilometers.

"MRT Jakarta always supports the government's efforts to maintain environmental resilience and sustainability by ensuring that the construction work carried out continues to comply with applicable regulations," he explained.

The following are the details of the implementation of the handling of trees affected by the MRT project:

- 550 trees affected consisting of 149 trees in Kebon Kelapa, 67 trees in Petojo Utara, six trees in Krukut, 293 trees in Maphar, and 35 trees in Keagungan

- To replace trees affected by the development, 5,170 replacement trees will be planted with a diameter of approximately 20 centimeters and a height of 4-5 meters

- 5,170 replacement trees will be replanted in Srengseng Sawah, South Jakarta nursery area belonging to the Jakarta Parks and City Forests Agency

- 33 trees will be relocated to locations to be determined by Jakarta Parks and City Forests Agency

He added the replanting of replacement trees in Srenseng Sawah nursery area, South Jakarta is currently underway. Replacement trees had begun to be planted following tree specifications determined by Jakarta Parks and City Forests Agency.

"Every tree that is replaced and relocated will be treated for the sake of sustainable environmental preservation," he stated.
